BIRTH CHART TECHNICALITIES

Last updated: 10 October 2026

The chart under a DigiKundali report is calculated before any text is written. This page states the three rules of that calculation.

Equal houses

We use equal 30-degree houses. We do not use Placidus, Koch, or another unequal house system.

Sidereal zodiac, True Chitrapaksha

The zodiac is sidereal. The zero point is set by the Chitrapaksha rule in the Surya Siddhanta: the star Chitra (Spica) is held at 180 degrees, at the start of Tula (Libra).

For each birth chart we compute the position of Spica at that moment and take the ayanamsa from it. This is the True Chitrapaksha ayanamsa. It is not a fixed formula carried forward from a reference year.

This differs from the official Lahiri ayanamsa, which was set for calendar uniformity in the 1950s and includes a later 5.8 arcsecond adjustment for the Indian Astronomical Ephemeris. Near a sign boundary, the two ayanamsas can place a planet or the ascendant in different signs. Where that happens, our chart follows Spica, not the official Lahiri value.

The astronomical sources

Positions are taken from current star and planetary data, not from a printed panchang. The stack is the Skyfield library, the JPL DE440 ephemeris, and the Hipparcos star catalogue.

What this does not include

The chart is the astronomical frame. The written report is a separate step, described on About Our AI Reports.
